Konstantyn Napolov (percussion) & Instrumentalists of the Royal Conservatoire conducted by Manoj Kamps

Noten-Fälle is a percussion concerto, written for Konstantyn Napolov. The title, which translates as 'tone-incidents', is a term invented by Johann Mattheson describing the Allemande faite en passant le Rhin dans une barque en grand péril, laquelle se jouë sentiment â la discrection by Johann Jakob Froberger, a German baroque composer and keyboard virtuoso. In contrast to that piece the 'tone-incidents' here are not connected to extra-musical information. The percussion setup includes, amongst others, three amplified apples and a complete 1 1⁄2-octave chromatic scale of tuned percussion instruments, consisting of boobams, log drums, roto-toms, congas and gongs. The instrumental writing for the ensemble refers to the playing of dung-chen horns and dung-dkar shell trumpets by Tibetan monks from the Amdo region.
