During a certain period in 2010 I was studying and listening a lot to mélodies on French texts composed throughout the 19th century and early 20th century but also to lieder on German texts from the same periods. I wanted to do something with what was keeping my mind busy so I wrote three songs for mezzo-soprano and piano on poems by Baudelaire: Le chat, La musique and Harmonie du soir. I wouldn't quite say these songs are written in the style of the heritage of these traditions. Maybe a better way to describe it is to say I was transforming what I adored, in my own way.
