Nederlands Studenten Orkest conducted by Jurjen Hempel
Motion Blur Streaks refers to stripes that appear on the image when a fast-moving object is photographed or filmed with a shutter speed that is too slow to capture it sharply. The piece was written for the Netherlands Student Orchestra, as the opening work of the program for their tour in 2023 conducted by Jurjen Hempel.
Throughout the piece, as it were, both the velocity and the shutter speed are varied. Where materials initially fly past the listener as a kind of audible, and sometimes just barely palpable flashes of light, they later return in a slowed-down form, spread out over time.
